Division Two
Gomersal’s Richard Gould provided the highlight of another rain-hit day in the only one of the six Division Two matches to get under way.
He struck a sparkling 130 as he and skipper Adam Greenwood shared an opening stand of 231 as Gomersal piled up 292-4 in their 50 overs.
Gould hit five sixesand 14 fours as he set about the Idle attack, while Greenwood was insight of his fiorst century of the season when he was dismissed for 97. His innings contained five sixes and six fours.
Gomersal looked set for a victory which would have strengthened their promotion challenge as James Russell (3-17) and Chris Rhodes (3-31) ripped out Idle’s top order.
Idle were then reeling at 72-8 when rain brought play to an end with still 26.1 overs to go. It was the 31 abandonment in Division Two this season and the 104 in the four divisions.
Division Two has been the hardest hit while Second Teams Division Two with 27, First Teams Division One 25 and second Teams Division One 21, have all been badly affected
The total number of postponements does not include the 48 matches moved from April 21 and 28 because of wet weather to the end of the season. if they are included the total is a stunning 152. – the equivalent of six full fixture programmes.
It is also worth remembering that today’s fixtures were moved from April 29 and not one of thje Division Two games has managed to be completed while only two of the Second Teams Division Two games moved to today were finished.
