Halliday shines as Yeadon extend their run

Yeadon extended their unbeaten start to the season to 11 games as they recorded a crushing eight-wicket win over struggling Brighouse.

Even a tenacious 34 from Will Smith couldn’t spare Brighouse from being dismissed for 91 as the in-form Oliver Halliday (5-36) and Damon Gormley (4-14) wreaked havoc.

Yeadon, who had been bowled out by Morley 24 hours earlier, showed no such frailty in their batting as they reached their target thanks to the efforts of skipper James Todd (43no) and Oliver Halliday (33no).

Baildon moved into second place after defeating Spen Victoria by 29 runs in a low scoring game. They climbed above Morley who suffered a ten-run defeat by Great Horton.

Baildon looked in danger of defeat when they were bowled out for 98 as George Deegan (3-6), Rob Burton (3-26) and Craig Woodhead (3-39) made the most of helpful conditions, but they bounced back to dismiss Spen for 69 thanks to Sohail Raz 94-32, Mushtaq Ahmed (3-9) and Craig Hitchenor (3-23).

Muhammed Akbar (4-31) and Sadaqat Zaman (3-58) bowled out Morley for 124 to secure a slender victory for Great Horton who had made 134 all out. Zahid Khaliq (36), Mohammed Said (33) and Zaman 930no) were their main contributors as James McNichol (3-9) emerged as Morley’s most successful bowler. The tope scorer for disappointing Morley was former Great Horton overseas player Kashif Naveed with 34.

Hartshead more are up to fourth, a point behind Morley and five adrift of Baildon after securing their second win of the weekend when they beat Gomersal by six wickets. Bowlers Nathan Madden (4-11) and George Saville (3-160 set up the win as Gomersal, despite an unbeaten 58 from Jonathan Boynton, were bowled out for 116. Danny Squire was unbeaten on 32 as Hartshead Moor cruised home despite another tight spell from left-arm spinner Chris Rhodes (3-28).

Simon Bailey was the match winner as Keighley defeated Bankfoot by five wickets. Bailey took a season’s best 7-35 as Bankfoot were all out for 147, Opener Kanchana Rodrigo (53) was the only batsman to make an impression. Keighley eased to their target with Imran Patel making 48 and the returning Richard Robinson (34).

There was no joy for bottom team Idle as they suffered a 113-run defeat at Bowling old Lane. Once again idle’s brittle batting let them down as they were skittled out for 62 in reply to Old Lane’s 175-7. Shoaib Iqbal led the way with a stunning 5-4, while Zubair Najeeb took 3-28. Old Lane’s total of 175-7 was built around a knock of 63 from Ayyaz Ayub, The best of the Idle bowlers was their overseas player Nasir Ayub with 3-60.
