The men who will take charge of the Shield final

Posted: August 4, 2006

Sunday's Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield final will be the first time that umpires Julian P Wadsworth and David Dracup have stood in the same match.

Wadsworth, 71, pictured left, who joined the Bradford League after starting out as an official in the Huddersfield League, is thrilled to have been selected for his first final and is looking forward to officiating with David Dracup.

"We met for the first time at East Bierley just after the appointments were made and it was really the first time we have had the chance to talk about cricket.

"Being selected to stand in this game is a huge honour for me and it is extra special that it will be the first to be played in coloured clothing."

David Dracup, pictured right, who swapped making bacon sandwiches on Sunday mornings for hungry juniors at Drighlington seven years ago, is thrilled to be standing in his first final.

"I only do second team games so I consider it a massive honour to have been chosen. It's something I am looking forward to and the fact it is creating a bit of history certainly adds to the occasion for me."

Both umpires will be wearing black shirts and have been supplied with black rain jackets by the Bradford League's preferred kit supplier, Surridge.
