Holders Barnsley face derby clash in second round

Holders Barnsley face a derby clash with their Oxbridge Yorkshire League rivals Doncaster Town in the second round of the Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup on Sunday, May 13.

Barnsley, bidding for a hat-trick of wins in the competition, had a bye in the first round while Doncaster comfortably saw off the challenge of JCT 600 Bradford League side Bankfoot.

Another interesting tie thrown up by tonight's draw sees last season's beaten finalists Baildon visit the Solly Sports Central Yorkshire League champions Wrenthorpe.

And an absorbing clash is in prospect between the Bradford League champions Woodlands and Central Yorkshire League side Metley.

Townville, who were runners up in the Central Yorkshire League last season, have a home tie against the winners of Sunday's first round replay between Wakefield City and Drakes Huddersfield Leaguers Shelley.

Wakefield City thought they had secured their first ever win of the season as they had lost three fewer wickets than Shelley, but the Heavy Woollen Management Committee have ordered the tie to be replayed in line with the competition rules.

Golcar, conquerors of East Bierley face a visit to fellow Huddersfield League side Slaithwaite, while Liversedge's reward for toppling Morley is another home tie against Bradford League opposition. This time their opponents will be Gomersal.

One team already through to the last 16 are Central Yorkshire Leaguers New Farnley. They have a bye as a result of Rotherham Town's withdrawal after the first round draw had been made.
