Second team review

St Lawrence win top-of-the table battle by four runs

Division One

Leaders Pudsey St Lawrence defeated second-placed Yeadon by just four runs in a close-fought encounter at Tofts Road.

Chris Sharkey (4-32) and Richard Marsden (4-48) bowled their side to victory and enabled St Lawrence to extend their lead to 16 points.

Graham Simpson finished unbeaten on 60 for Yeadon after battling hard to try and turn the game his side's way as they fought to overcome a St lawrence total of 187-7. Dave Hester continued his good form with 44 while left-arm spinner Nick Darfield was the best Yeadon bowler with five for 52.

Third-placed Hanging Heaton wasted no time as they dismissed Bowling Old Lane for 95 before knocking off the runs for the loss of five wickets. James Byrne (3-9) and Umar Rehman (3-12) were the best bowlers for Hanging Heaton.

Fourth-placed Farsley were the day's quickest winners. They bowled out Pudsey Congs for 84 with Barrie Frankland taking four for eight and Jimmy Higgins (3-18). Farsley eased home by five wickets.

Woodlands returned to winning ways with a 91-run victory at Baildon. Phil Higgins had an outstanding match. he made 96 ad Woodlands reached 207-6, and took five for 30 as Baildon crumbled to 116 all out.

Champions East Bierley had Chris Brook to thank for their 19run win at Morley. He took four for 46 as Morley were dismissed for 178 despite 46 from Ash Daley. James Petty top scorerd with 52 in East Bierley's total of 197-9, while Gareth Roberts (4-45) was Morley's best bowler.

Undercliffe eased their relegation worried and added to Keighley's as they recorded a 62-run win in the basement battle. Liam Brealey (86) and Jack carter (53) enabled Undercliffe to make 245-4 before bowling Keighley out for 183 with Andy Wildon (3-39) and Royston Light (3-64) doing the damage.

 

Division Two

There just no stopping Spen Victoria's Adam Brown. The opener hit his third century of the season as his side crushed Bankfoot by 135 runs to move into second place.

Brown launched a blistering assault on the bowling and made an aggressive 109 which helped Spen Victoria to post a total of 225 all out. George Deegan (51) and Leigh Manton (32no) were the other main contributors.

Brown was also in the thick of the action when Bankfoot batted. he took four for 24 as they were dismissed for 90.

There were two more century makers in Division Two. Jack Holland - a former team-mate of Brown's at Spen Victoria - made 117 in Windhill's 170-run win over Brighouse and Nadeem Ghalib made 113 not out for Manningham Mills as they defeated Lightcliffe by 79 runs.

Des Wilkinson (51) gave support to Holland as Windhill reached 289-8 before bowling out Brighouse for 119 with Ibby Hussain taking three for 18 and Ryan Holdsworth (3-61).

Ghalib's century helped Mills to post a score of 299-6 against promotion-chasing Lightcliffe. Mohammad Faisal (68) and Zafan Gaffar (41) also chipped in with valuable scores. Lightcliffe replied with 220 all out. Oliver Hemmingway hit an unbeaten 74 and Steve Hartley (41) but Syed Hashmi (4-50) ensured they were never in the hunt for a victory.

Leaders Bradford & Bingley defeated Gomersal by 32 runs and now have 167 points - four more than their closest challengers Spen Victoria. Skipper Peter Clarke (68) enabled his side to make 168-9, then Michael Clarke (3-32), Adam Swallow (3-36) and Danny Trowers (3-51) combined to dismiss Gomersal for 136.

Andy Halford took five for 52 as Hartshead Moor defeated battling idle by four runs. Idle were eventually all out for 180 with Josh marsden making 61 and Andy Parratt (49). Hartshead Moor made 184 all out with Joel Barnett making 71. Parratt, who had a fine match, took four for 25.

Amarpaul Sarie (73) and Steve Dunn (60) steered Saltaire to a seven-wicket win over Great Horton. They capitalised on the earlier good work of Govinder Barghota who took five for 36 as Great Horton - despite 81 from Zubair Ashraf, were dismissed for 194.
