Division One

With leaders Baildon enjoying a day off, Saltaire, Pudsey St Lawrence and Yeadon all seized their chance to close the gap at the top.

Saltaire moved to within two points of Baildon with a 10-run win at Manningham Mills, while Pudsey St Lawrence climbed up to third with an eight-wicket triumph at Hanging Heaton while Yeadon inflicted a third-successive defeat on Woodlands by four runs.

Heavy showers meant that all matches in Division One suffered disruption - the match between Pudsey Congs and Cleckheaton was abandoned after just 28 overs to play - a real disappointment as the Yorkshire duo of Andrew Gale (Cleckheaton) and Richard Pyrah (Pudsey Congs) were playing in the league for the first time this season.

In all of the other matches the number of overs played was reduced and they all achieved positive results.

Saltaire are certainly proving to be the surprise packages of the season. They made it four wins out of five as they defeated their old rivals Manningham Mills ina game reduced to 29 overs each side.

Saltaire batted first and posted a useful score of 158-8 thanks largely to the efforts of Yassar Abass (37). Once again Zeeshan Qasim eas the pick of the Mills bowlers with four for 44. Mills, despite an unbeaten 46 from Muenoddin Kadri and 32 from Fawad Maqsood, were restricted to 148-5 as Saltaire skipper Ijaz Khan took three for 35.

Pudsey St Lawrence moved on to 64 points - five adrift of Saltaire and seven behind leaders Baildon - after their win at Hanging Heaton. Former Nottinghamshire player Gareth Clough (75), Mark Robertshaw (67no) and Alex Stead (62) enabled St Lawrence to pass Hanging Heaton's score of 235-8 with nine balls to spare.

Hanging Heaton, who remain rooted to the bottom after five straight defeats, had shown their best form to date with the bat. James Stansfield (56), Haroon Rashid (43) and Amar Rashid (37) made good contributions, but once again their side's bowling lacked penetration.

Yeadon remain fourth after inflicting a third-successive defeat on a fading Woodlands side. This latest reverse is a further body blow to their hopes of becoming only the third side to win five successive championships.

The in-form Dan Shuffe can do no wrong for Yeadon at the moment. He raced to 65 not out off 62 balls with five six and three fours. With James Pickles making 37, Yeadon reached 167-5 declared.

Woodlands lost early wickets as former Yorkshire pace bowler Greg Lambert posed problems in a spell which was to earn him figures of four for 55. Adam Goldthorpe (38) tried his hardest to turn the game Woodlands way, but with five needed from the final ball, Murphy Walwyn swung and missed a delivery from Lambert, leaving Yeadon the victors.

The day's most explosive batting came from Bradford & Bingley all-rounder Chris Thompson. He made an unbeaten 100 off 71 balls as his side beat Farsley by 98 runs. Thompson arrived at his half-century from 52 balls, then raced to three figures from a further 19 deliveries. He struck eight sixes and four fours. His efforts meant Bradford & Bingley posted a score of 202-6 in their 33 overs.

Farsley lost early wickets and were never in the hunt. Former Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire player Ashley Metcalfe made 37 but Farsley limped to 104-8 on an afternoon when Richard McCarthy took four for 28 - his fourth successive four-wicket haul of the season.

It was Bradford & Bingley's third straight win and they are now fifth - a place and a point ahead of East Bierley who have enjoyed a similar run of success. They kept their upward momentum going with a convincing 115-run win at Gomersal.

A half-century from Lee Goddard and a rapid 70 not out from Greg Wood saw east Bierley make 215-5 in 37 overs before dismissing Gomersal for 100. Chris Elstub took four for 38 and new overseas player Mohammad Azhar Ullah picked up three for 21 on his debut.

Bankfoot underlined their credentials as league leaders with a five-wicket win at Undercliffe which extends their 100 per cent start to the season to five matches.

Undercliffe's openers Mark Gilliver (67) and Jamie Thursh (44) got them off to a good start before Bankfoot hit back strongly to restrict them to 180-7. Left arm spinner Andrew Deegan took four for 54 and seamer Marcus Walmsley (3-43). South African Greg Fotheringham (50) and Micky Hutchins (45no) ensured that Bankfoot cashed in on their good work.

Windhill are now second after defeating Lightcliffe by 57 runs, Sadaqat Zaman picked up four for 11 and Josh Wheatley (3-29) as they dismissed Lightcliffe for 163 in reply to their score of 163 all out. The pick of the Lightcliffe bowlers was AdilLadak (6-47).

Hartshead Moor moved up to third after racing to a nine-wicket win at Brighouse. Brighouse skipper Paul Cummins made 47 as his side scored 151-9, but Hartshead Moor had little trouble knocking off the runs for a fourth win in five games.

If you enjoy tight finish, Morley is the place to go. The home side haven't won a game this season but they already have two ties in five games. Morley made 139-9 thanks to Robert Smith (34) and Phil Carter (33). Bowling Old Lane looked dead and buried when they plunged to 65-8, but Mubtada Akhtar had other ideas. He hit four fours and two sixes in a robust innings of 60, but was run out wioth three balls to go with the scores tied. James Russell took four for 48 and Tom Smith (3-37) for Morley.

After successive defeats by Lightcliffe and Bankfoot, Spen Victoria returned to winning ways with a four-wicket win at Idle. Their match-winner was veteran Maz Bhatti who took five for 32 as Idle were dismissed for 132, and followed up with 38 as Spen reached their victory target.

Keighley recorded their second win on the trot to heap more misery on lowly Great Horton. Paul Quinlan continued his good form with 48 while Richard Robinson (41no) and Jake Best (38) helped Keighley post a score of 163-4, before dismissing Great Horton for 66. Ross Towler (4-27) and Steve Reape (3-9) did the bulk of the damage.
