First team review
Bradford & Bingley are skittled and St Lawrence are stunned
Posted: July 4, 2009

Division One

It was a day of shocks with leaders Bradford & Bingley losing at Farsley and bottom team Hanging Heaton pulling off a remarkable win over Pudsey St Lawrence.

The first surprise came at Red Lane where Bradford & Bingley were skittled out for just 73 as Robert Thornton took five for 39 - his first five wicket haul in first team cricket - and Chris Henry (3-21).

Farsley eased home to a six-wicket win with Lorenzo Inghram (29no) and Harpal Ryatt (25no) seeing them to their target.

There was further bad news for Bradford & Bingley when their veteran seam bowler Richard McCarthy had to be carried from the field with a hamstring injury.

Perhaps the most stunning result came at Tofts Road where Hanging Heaton clawed their way back from the jaws of defeat to snatch victory with a remarkable display of hitting from their seventh-wicket pair of Ryan Senior and Mark Lawson.

They came together at 108-6 and decided to launch a counter attack just when their side were looking like falling well short of Pudsey St Lawrence's total of 216 all out.

Senior smashed six sixes and six fours as he made 71 not out off just 37 balls, while Lawson - the former Yorkshire player - hit three sixes and seven fours as he struck an unbeaten 67 from 45 balls.

Hanging Heaton, who had required 102 from the last 12 overs, cruised home with 3.5 overs to spare.

Lawson had earlier taken three for 60 in the St Lawrence innings which was again dominated by Gareth Clough who made 62 not out.

Hanging Heaton remain rooted to the bottom. They are now just seven adrift of Manningham Mills who were dismissed for just 72 as they suffered a seven-wicket defeat at Saltaire.

Nadeem Mahommed performed the hat-trick as he took three for nine to wrap up the sorry Manningham Mills innings. Javed Umarji (24no) made the highest score of the match to steer Saltaire to their eight win.

East Bierley leapt from fourth to second as they defeated Gomersal by125 runs. The profited from the dramatic events at Farsley and Pudsey St Lawrence to seize second place from Baildon who were without a game.

Scotland skipper Gavin Hamilton and all-rounder Kez Ahmed were the East Bierley heroes. Hamilton hit ten fours in a fine innings of 72 and then took four slip catches, while Ahmed hit a brisk 37 to help his side post a total of 240-8, then took six for 15 with his off spin as Gomersal were dismissed for 115.

Former East Bierley stalwart Richard Gould (41) was the only Gomersal batsman to make an impression as they collapsed from 46-0 to 115 all out. Left-arm spinner Luke Jarvis took three for 32.

Woodlands plunged to 11th after suffering their eight defeat of the season. Yeadon beat them by five wickets and the result leaves the struggling champions in 11th place - 25 points ahead of Manningham Mills and a further seven above Hanging Heaton.

It was Yeadon's second victory over Woodlands this season and was richly deserved. Their steady bowling worked wonders as Woodlands were dismissed for 118. Andrew Robertson was the most successful bowler with three for 22. Yeadon had to weather a good new-ball burst from Pieter Swanepoel (3-36) before Dan Shuffe (35no) steered them home.

Pudsey Congs continued their revival with a 33-run win at Cleckheaton. Just how much they have missed overseas paceman Mohammad Naved was underlined as he took five for 28 as Cleckheaton were dismissed for 166.

Earlier, Andrew Bairstow struck a fine 83 as Congs were bowled out for 199. John Wood (3-45) and Ian Wardlaw (3-59) were the pick of the bowlers.

Division Two

Keighley are proving to be a bogey side for leaders Bankfoot. They beat them for the second time this season to open up the title race.

Richard Robinson, who recently past 15,000 career runs, stroked a superb 109 as Keighley made 240-8 before dismissing Bankfoot for 137. Last man Nigel Hanson spared Bankfoot from greater embarrassment by smashing 33 from 11 balls. Skipper Steve Reape was Keighley's top bowler with four for 17 as they secures 103-run win.

The result moves Keighley into fourth place. They are 30 points behind Bankfoot and 19 adrift of Undercliffe who defeated Windhill by 76 runs in the division's top game.

Overseas player Nawaz Sardar was again in impressive form for Undercliffe. He batted superbly for an unbeaten 136 which helped Undercliffe to a total of 244-6. Craig Wiseman was the most successful Windhill bowler but his four wickets cost him 86 runs

Windhill denied Undercliffe maximum points by clinging on at 168-9. Former Undercliffe batsman Farakh Hussain top scored for Windhill with 53 and Darren Drake made 32, but again left-arm spinner Chris Greenwood (6-28) turned in a decisive spell of bowling as Undercliffe secured another valuable win.

Bowling Old Lane's promotion challenge continues to gather strength. Hamad Usman (50) and skipper Amjid Khan (36no) steered them to a four-wicket win over Idle to go third in the table.

Idle's captain Greg Pickles again batted well and top scored with 66 as they made 172-8 batting first. Haseeb Ullah was Old Lane's top bowler with three for 22.

Thirteen proved to be lucky for Great Horton. At the 13th attempt they finally registered their first win. Teenage bowler Raheel Ahmed took four for nine as they bowled out Lightcliffe for 112 before easing to victory by five wickets with Hans Randhwa making 36.

Australian Lachlan Hall made 88 as Hartshead Moor posted the day's highest score in first team cricket of 297-7 on their way to an 87-run win over Spen Victoria.

Graham Hilton (51), former Spen Victoria player Jonathan Gould (48) and Craig Field (41) helped Hartshead Moor to their imposing total.

Spen, despite the efforts of Matthew West (58), James Baker (51) and Matthew Speck (40) were bowled out for 210 by Gould (3-14), Simon North 3-55) and Craig Woodhead (3-58).

Richard Winn took five for 21 to set up Morley's five-wicket win at Brighouse. The home side, despite 37 from skipper Paul Cummins, were restricted to 122-8. Morley eased to their second successive win with Phil Carter - a former Brighouse player - making 53.
