Pudsey Congs have underlined their determination to try and end Woodlands' three-year domination of the JCT 600 Bradford League title by adding experienced wicketkeeper/batsman Mark Gill and former Yorkshire off spinner Jeremy Batty to their squad.
Gill joins Congs after a brief spell with Brighouse and he will bring considerable experience while adding to the depth of the Congs' squad. He has taken 452 victims in Bradford League cricket - more than any other keeper currently playing. That places him tenth on the chart of top keepers since 1942.
Gill, who has had spells with Windhill, Cleckheaton, Undercliffe and East Bierley in addition to Brighouse, is a consistent early order batsman, and though his availability has been curtailed by business commitments in recent seasons, he will also provide back up for last season's keeper Andrew Bairstow.
Batty, who returned to the JCT 600 Bradford League last season with Baildon, will give added variety and experience to the Pudsey Congs' bowling attack. He took 58 wickets in 2007 at 14.60 runs apiece.
Hanging Heaton have indicated their desire to become a greater force by making five signings. Two of their recruits are from Brighouse. Overseas all-rounder Rizwan Ahmed - winner of the Division One batting averages in 2006 and Haroon Rashid who was the top scorer in Division One last season with 887 runs.
Rashid will also be joined in the new-look Hanging Heaton side by his brother Amar who has spent the past two seasons with Manningham Mills. He was a member of the Bradford League representative side which won the last Yorkshire Senior Inter League competition in 2006.
Hanging Heaton have also signed last season's top Division One wicket-taker Imran Arif who took 59 wickets for Saltaire and Stockton batsman Richard Thomas.
Bowling Old Lane have strengthened their bowling attack by signing the reliable Saltaire opening bowler Mansha Khan, and re-signing left arm spinner Mohammad Hanif who played for Yorkshire League side Harrogate last season. They have also secured the services of wicketkeeper/batsman Tarek Alam who returns to the JCT 600 Bradford League after a spell with Elworth in the North Staffordshire and South Cheshire League.
Newly-promoted Esholt have signed Saltaire all-rounder Gulsheraz Ahmed who they hope will bolster their middle order and the former Idle all-rounder Paul Cummins while last year's Division Two champions Yeadon have bolstered their bowling attack by signing former Yorkshire pace bowler Greg Lambert from East Bierley.
Pudsey St Lawrence welcome back all-rounder Chris Marsden from the Yorkshire Academy and have recruited the experienced Idle wicketkeeper Steve Thompson. Their batting line up is also boosted by the addition of talented youngster Michael Raikes from Harrogate.
East Bierley have trengthened their batting with the signing of Greg Wood from the Yorkshire Academy and have also recuited the talented former Yorkshire player Chris Elstub from Spen Victoria. He topped the Division Two bowling averages and was top all-rounder in Division Two in 2006.
Nely-promoted Esholt have moved to strengthen their side in readiness for their first season in Division One with the recruitment of opening batsman and off spin bowler Paul Cummins from relegated Idle and also recruited his brother Mark, another all-rounder, from Tynemouth.
Another player quitting Idle is the experienced opening bat Javed Umarji. The former Hanging Heaton stalwart has signed for Saltaire.
Manningham Mills have snapped up two players from their rivals Bowling Old Lane. All-rounder Amjid Khan and batsman Raqeeb Younis, who both featured in the Old Lane side which won the Division Two championship and finished runners up to Woodlands in the 2006 Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup final, have joined the Scotchman Road outfit.
Baildon have recruited two opening bowlers. They have signed former Farsley opening bowler Stuart Lemon from Colne and Andrew Walker from Central Yorkshire League side Moorlands. They have also signed talented Manningham Mills all rounder Ahsan Butt.
Opening bowler Nathan Bromby is returning to his old club Morley to spearhead their Division Two promotion bid. Bromby was part of the Pudsey Congs side which won last season's Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup and finished runners up in both the Division One championship and the Black Sheep Champions Trophy.
Bromby will share the new ball with former Congs player Mohammad Azhar Ullah who had a successful season with Central Yorkshire League side Mirfield Parish Cavaliers in 2007.
Morley have also confirmed the signing of the promising young batsman Danny Lloyd who enjoyed a productive 2007 season at Bankfoot. Lloyd will open the batting with new skipper Matthew Taylor who he played alongside at Spen Victoria in 2006.
