Owens sparkles as East Bierley triumph again

East Bierley took another step towards retaining their JCT 600 Bradford League Second Teams Division One title with their tenth win in 12 games.

They defeated Baildon by eight wickets with Thomas Owens (88no) and James Petty (34no) steering them home after Baildon had been restricted to 171-8. Mohammad Abbas top scored for Baildon with 45.

Second-placed Esholt suffered their second defeat when they went down by five wickets at Keighley. Ashley Robinson took seven for 45 as Esholt were dismissed for 127. Paul Wilkinson made 53 not out as Keighley secured their win. Michael Kelsey was the pick of the Esholt bowlers with four for 32.

Yeadon skipper Andrew Pickering made the day's highest individual score. He hit an unbeaten 121 as his side made 243-6 as they defeated Lightcliffe by 11 runs in a high-scoring game. Ben Galley (65) was the other main scorer for Yeadon. Richie Powe blasted 91 for Lightcliffe, but Nick Darfield (4-64) ensured that Yeadon won the game.

Youngsters Harry Smallwood (82no) and Adam Wood (62) helped third-placed Woodlands to make 220-6 as they defeated Hanging Heaton by 49 runs. Tom Smallwood took four for 38 as Hanging Heaton were dismissed for 171. Dave Lawrence top scored with 40.

Not to be outdone by the Smallwood brothers Cleckheaton's teenage twins Marcus and Edward Walmsley starred in their side's eight-wicket win over Bowling Old Lane. Marcus took six for 36 as Old Lane were dismissed for 143 and made 34 in Cleckheaton's reply which was dominated by his brother Edward who top scored with 75not out.

Farsley hauled themselves off the bottom of the table with a 75-run win over Pudsey St lawrence. Chris Horner took six for 23 as St Lawrence were dismissed for 121 in reply to Farsley's total of 196-8. James Higgins top scored with 44.

Spen Victoria are now bottom after their nine-wicket defeat by Pudsey Congs. Derek Warriner (79) and Mark Richardson (36) helped Spen Victoria to a score of 185-9 which Congs overhauled with nine over to spare thanks to the efforts of Phil Allinson (78no) and Richard Jebb (76no).

Division Two leaders Undercliffe picked up a maximum 20 points after beating Brighouse by 113 runs. Liam Brearley (59) and Jack Carter (52no) led their side to a score of 260-6. Sonny Matharu took five for 34 as Brighouse were dismissed for 147 despite 89 from James Thrush,

Second -placed Bradford & Bingley had a comfortable six-wicket win over Gomersal who were dismissed for 127 as Adam Swallow took four for 18 and Danny Trowers (4-37). Josh Fell (45no) top scored for Gomersal while James Dunn made 77 in Bradford & Bingley's successful run chase.

Manningham Mills maintained their promotion challenge with a seven-wicket win over Hartshead Moor. Mohammad Faisal made 95 and Asif Amir (74) helped Mills overtake Hartshead Moor's score of 219-9 which was built around Nicky Ward's (84).

Usman Arshad made 54 and Adnan Bhatti (39) as Saltaire made 224-8 on their way to a 14-run win over battling Windhill. Danny Maguire (39) and Nick Sugden (34) were Windhill's top scorers.

Kanwal Bhamura took four for 15 and made 72 as Bankfoot beat Idle by six wickets. Idle were dismissed for 141 and Bankfoot eased home in 23.1 overs.
