Posted: May 7, 2007

Openers Greg Godfrey (166) and Cieran Garner (122) helped JCT 600 Bradford League Second Teams Division One champions Woodlands to pile up a stunning total of 404 for three against Windhill in their Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield first round tie.

Godfrey hit three sixes and 23 fours while Garner struck one six and 20 fours during an opening stand of 251. Once they departed Keith Robson (48not out), Elliott Millnes (32) and Steven Pearson (28not out) added to the suffering of the Windhill bowlers.

Windhill's Tahir Amin had a game he won't forget in a hurry. He claimed the wickets of Godfrey and Garner but his ten overs cost him 117 runs. Then, Amin took revenge for the pummeling his bowling suffered by striking three sixes and 17 fours in a fine knock of 119 as Windhill made 279 in reply. Phil Walker claimed three for 42 for Woodlands.

Holders East Bierley had pace bowler Dan Abbott to thank for setting up their five-wicket win over Keighley. Abbott took five for 31 as Keighley were dismissed for 119. East Bierley had a few anxious moments before first Arron Brook (38) and then John davis (50not out) saw them home

Yeadon, the 2005 winners, are also through to the second round. They put their disappointing league form behind them to record a 22-run success over Pudsey Congs. Openers Andrew Pickering and Will Darby both hit 65 as they helped their side post a total of 226 despite some good bowling from Ben Burkhill (4-42).

The Congs' reply was dominated by Steve Blanchard (95), but only the promising Burkhill (36) gave him the support he needed. Congs were dismissed for 204.

Fifteen-year-old bowler Robert Warriner took five for 17 to secure a 30-run win for Spen Victoria at Morley. Tom Wallis (36) and Danny Bell (33 not out) top scored for Morley as they were dismissed for 149 in reply to a Spen score of 179 which owed much to the efforts of Leigh Manton (78) who received crucial support from Tom Sharp (18) in a seventh-wicket stand of 65. Opener David Hester (33) was the other main contributor.

Openers Barry Frankland and Theren Moody (40) set Farsley on course for their three-wicket win over Great Horton. Farsley eased past their rivals' score of 209 for nine with 4.4 overs to spare. Mohammed Daud (72) and Wahid Iqbal (69) shared a second-wicket stand of 113 for Great Horton.

Idle, boosted by the presence of first team skipper Mark Nicklin, defeated Bradford & Bingley by 28 runs to continue their good start to the season. Gavin Lyons (42), Graham Dobson (37) and Nicklin (25) helped Idle to post a score of 196 despite some good bowling from Danny Trowers (4-33)

Trowers also top scored with 33 as Bradford & Bingley were dismissed for 168 as Bradley Goodaire took four for 36 and Nicklin (2-22).

Joe Loughran picked up five for 36 and Usman Salim (3-13) as Gomersal dismissed Brighouse of 137 on their way to a seven-wicket win. Opener Mick Baldwin hit a half-century as Gomersal won with 28.2 overs to spare.

Hartshead Moor's woes continued as they were brushed aside by Pudsey St lawrence. Hartshead moor were dismissed for 109 with keith Marsden taking three for 30. Pudsey St Lawrence knocked off the runs in 16 overs with Phil Wilson finishing unbeaten on 65 and James Milligan undefeated on 36.

The ten men of Manningham Mills completed a 12-run win over Lightcliffe in a high-scoring match. Syed Ahmed (83), Nadeem Ghalib (58) and Fazal Hussain (42) steered Mills to a score of 266 for nine despite some good bowling from Mohammad Shafiq (4-45).

Lightcliffe skipper Gareth Stevens tried hard to force victory for his side. He made 78 not out and with help from Steve Hartley (39) and Tom Powe (30) he gave Lightcliffe hope, but four run outs ultimately proved costly.
