Morley members prepare for their sponsored walk

When Morley discovered they faced a hefty bill to replace the gearbox on their heavy roller their members were quick to help out.

On Saturday they staged an Easter Fair in the clubhouse before holding a sponsored walk around the outfield and raised an astonishing £2,000.

The walkers included club officials right down to members of the club's under-9 team. Among those who were lending their support were first team captain Dave Nebard along with team-mates Steve Lane , Colin Nuthall, James Russell and Paul Kinder.

Nebard said: "The members have been incredible. Having the roller breakdown at such a crucial time isn't good, but the members have responded brilliantly to help us to raise the £500 to repair it."

The Easter Fair included stalls selling fruit kebabs, pickles among other things and all of the stalls were extremely busy.

The walk around the boundary followed the fair. Morley official Graeme Smith said: "I am gobsmacked by the amount of money raised. We cannot thank the members enough for their response. Hopefully the roller will be back in action quickly."

To get the right gearbox Morley officials had to send a picture of the one they required to a firm in Devon.
