Long-serving Ken collects two honours

Heavy Woollen Cup stalwart Ken Dunwell had his long service honoured at the the competition's 2007 annual meeting.

First Mr Dunwell, who has served on the committee for 41 years, learned that his fellow officials had purchased a new trophy to honour his contribution.

It will be known as the Ken Dunwell Trophy and will be presented annually to the the runners up in the Heavy Woollen Cup.

Heavy Woollen Cup president David Sharp told clubs at the meeting at Gomersal, "Ken has done a fantastic job for this competition and we believe the trophy is a fitting tribute. We hope Ken will be able to come to the final for many more years to present it himself."

Later in the meeting Mr Dunwell received a second accolade when it was unanimously agreed to bestow him with the honour of Life Vice-President.

It means the competition now has three Life Vice Presidents. The others are Clifford Smith and Neville Blamires.

Mr Dunwell said: "I am extremely humble and immensely proud. Thank you for these honours. It feels great to say that the magnificent new cup is the Ken Dunwell Trophy. It is an honour and a privelege to be a Life Vice-President of this great competition."
